“TRANSLATION – YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW”

The Department of English, J. M. Patel College, Bhandara is organising a one-day UGC-sponsored national seminar on “Translation – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”. The objective of the seminar is to provide a forum for interaction and exchange among the college teachers of English focusing on the relationship of translation with creative writing, literary appreciation, language teaching and cross-cultural understanding. It also aims at tracing the evolution of translation as an academic discipline with special reference to the emerging trends. Eminent scholars and practitioners in the field will share their insights on significant developments in the field and their implications.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We propose to publish a conference volume containing selected papers related to the conference theme. Papers are invited on a topic related to the following broad areas, or any other topic relevant to the theme of the seminar:

§ Issues and challenges in translating literary texts

§ Translation/ transcreation

§ Modern trends in translation

§ Translation and the study of English literature

§ Technology in translation

§ Role of translation in teaching/ learning English

Papers should be maximum 2000 words long, in Times New Roman font size 12 (Title font size 14) with double spacing. The references should conform to MLA stylesheet. A short biography of the writer (max. 50 words) with email ID and contact number should accompany the paper.

Deadline for sending the full-length paper: 31 January 2011

Acceptance will be confirmed by: 10 February 2011

Paper should be sent by email to: <englishjmpc@gmail.com> or <amolpadwad@gmail.com>. Alternatively you may send a CD containing your paper to the Organising Secretary (address below).

REGISTRATION

Delegate Fee: Rs. 250/- (For teachers)

Rs. 100/- (For students)

Delegate fee can be sent by cheque (please add Rs. 60/- for outstation cheques) or DD drawn in the name of “Principal, J. M. Patel College, Bhandara” payable at Bhandara or in cash at the college office/ Department of English. Delegate fee will cover seminar material, lunch and refreshments.

ACCOMMODATION

Modest accommodation can be arranged for delegates wishing to stay strictly on the advance payment of Rs. 300/- per night. Kindly send your amount and the dates of stay along with your registration fees.

REACHING BHANDARA

Bhandara is 60 kms east of Nagpur on Mumbai – Kolkata National Highway (NH6) and well connected to other cities. Nearest Railway station: Bhandara Road (8 kms), from where regular buses and autorickshaws are available for Bhandara. Nearest airport: Nagpur (60 kms). By road: A drive of 60 kms from Nagpur along the NH6 towards Raipur. State Transport buses to Bhandara are available from several cities of Maharashtra (almost every 15 minutes from 5.00 am till 10.00 pm from Nagpur). The College is just 10 minutes walk from the bus station at Bhandara.
