Higher Education in Bihar and Globalization – Issues, Challenges and Suggestions

J.N.L.College Khagaul, Patna, (Estd: 1959)

National Symposium

Higher Education in Bihar and Globalization – Issues, Challenges and Suggestions

September-10-11, 2015

Higher Education in Bihar and Globalization – Issues, Challenges and Suggestions

Theme of the Symposium

Although there have been challenges to higher education in the past, these most recent calls for reform may provoke a fundamental change in higher education. This change may not occur as a direct response to calls for greater transparency and accountability, rather because of the opportunity to reflect on the purpose of higher education, the role of colleges and universities in the new millennium, and emerging scientific research on how people learn. The views on these issues literatures have not been tied together in a way that would examine the impact of fundamental change from the policy level to the institutional level, of college and university administrators, faculty and students. Now the time has come to create a second wave of institution building and of excellence in the fields of education, research and capability building. We need higher educated people who are skilled and who can drive our economy forward. When India can provide skilled people to the outside world then we can transfer our country from a developing nation to a developed nation very easily and quickly.

Higher, post-secondary, or third level education refers to the stage of learning that occurs at academies, universities, colleges, seminaries and institutes of technology. Higher education also includes certain collegiate-level institutions, such as vocational schools, trade schools, and career colleges, that award degrees, diplomas and certificates. Globalization is an umbrella term that refers to increasing global connectivity, integration and interdependence in the economic, social, technological, cultural, political, and ecological spheres. It is a unitary process inclusive of many such sub-processes, perhaps as best understood as enhanced economic interdependence, increased cultural influence, rapid advances of information technology, and novel governance and geopolitical challenges. In this paper, a systematic attempt has been made to describe academic qualification framework, institutional framework and regulatory framework regarding higher education in this era of globalization.

THEME OF CONFERENCE: The following broad areas/fields are being proposed for deliberations during the Academic Session of the symposium.

1. Contemporary higher education in Bihar; Issues and Problems.

2.Roll of higher education in Bihar Past and Present.

3. Nature of higher education in Bihar; pre-colonial, colonial and contemporary perspective.

4. The impact of globalization on higher education system in Bihar.

5. The above three issues effect on the higher education policy, program, structure and function, structure function relations and the needed restructuring at the center, state and Institution levels.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SYMPOSIUM

1.      Providing the common platform for exchange of ideas, thoughts and views on innovation strategy regarding the higher education.

2.       To deliberate on new and changing trends seen in current social era.

3.      To enhance the quality of life by adopting the teachings as taught by higher education.

4.       A defining element of this moment is the capacity for academicians and researchers to accelerate transformation through collaborative action.

5.       To find the solution of varied global issues with the higher education.

Abstracts for presentation on the theme of the symposium are invited from research scholars. Abstract should not exceed 300 words. Abstracts should be submitted by e-mail at the id. : jha.ak@hotmail.com. The last date for submission of abstract : September 02.

 The Association of Commonwealth Universities

Dear Professor Sharma,

I am pleased to announce that the ACU has launched a new international scholarships initiative in South Africa.

In recent years, we have played a leading role in expanding the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, through establishing an endowment fund to support Commonwealth Scholarships for international students in low and middle income countries.

I am pleased to report that, for 2016, funds are available to support up to nine such scholarships (two at PhD level, seven for Master's degree study) in South Africa. Details can be found on our website. The deadline for applications is 7 September 2015.

I am particularly grateful to the David & Elaine Potter Foundation, whose generosity is supporting the PhD scholarships, as well as colleagues at the Department of Higher Education and Training, who, in conjunction with Universities South Africa, have agreed to organise the selection panel.

I hope that this will be the start of a permanent initiative to help support high quality students from Commonwealth countries to study in South Africa, and we are already exploring ways in which we can maintain and expand the programme in future.

In the meantime, I would be grateful if you could bring the current opportunities to the attention of any suitable candidates who you feel may be interested.

Fwd: Establishment of Skills Development Centre - Digital Language Lab

Sub: - Establishment of Skills Development Centre – Digital Language Lab.

Dear Sir/Madam,

With greetings from 'Station-e', I wish to convey to you that the present era is marked with the rise of skills and competencies. Institution such as yours is of infinite value to the world in the general and the country in particular as the workforce of the future is going to come out fully equipped from there. It is indeed a century of life and soft skills which cannot be acquired without in-depth training in various skills.

As we move into the second decade of the 21st century, Institution such as yours as an institution shall prove to be decisive to the Indian context of growth and development. India is making giant strides to assume a significant role in the international scenario. At such a critical juncture, we can all unite to make the education system the backbone of the future of India.

Keeping this in view, 'Station-e' has envisioned the concept of Skills Development Centre – Digital Language Lab which can be established at your institute campus. This Centre is envisaged as the training regimen of your Institute to impart various skills to its students like Communicative English, Communicative French, Computer Skills, Vedic Mathematics and Life as well as Soft Skills, etc. It is apt to note that your institution shares the concern for which 'Station-e' is striving hard for the up-skilling of the youth. It is also pertinent to note that you have implicit faith in the idea of training the youth for life and soft skills.

For more details please visit us on: http://station-e.com/

We are confident that the synergy efforts of your institution and 'Station-e' could empower the youth of the country to meet the challenges ahead.

With thanks and regards,

Mr. Hasit Dashani

Director, Station-e Info Services Pvt. Ltd.
