Fwd: CFP on indigenous literature

For an edited volume on indigenous literature with ISBN.

Beginning with the nation building enterprise around the world, indigenous peoples have experienced marginalization and oppression. They have faced enslavement, exploitation and extermination in the hands of colonization. But the actual destruction and wiping out of indigenous peoples began with the Europeanization of the globe. The exploitation and the theft of the flora and fauna of the tribal peoples continue in the name of neo-liberal policies such as privatization and enclosure of common properties. Indigenous peoples fight against this systematic exploitation in multifarious forms. Along with political strategies, literature has become a platform to voice out their concerns, question hegemony, rage against exploitation, emphasize their inherent sovereignty, or even a pure expression of their cultural opulence.

The last half of the 20th century has been remarkable in the rise of indigenous literature all over the world. Native American, Canadian First Nations, Australian Aboriginal, New Zealand Maori, Indian tribal and many other indigenous peoples of the world have begun to invade the realm of the "literary." The Pulitzer Prize for N. Scott Momaday's House Made of Dawn in 1969 was a major gesture showcasing the surge of fourth world literature. Autobiography, Fiction, Drama, Poetry, and Film are few of the domain in which indigenous writers operate.

Within this context we welcome original research papers on indigenous literature from around the world.

A few of the possible areas of concern would be:

• Indigenous survival

• Ecological issues

• Political struggles

• Exploitation

• Celebration of indigenous life

• Cross cultural dialogue

• Cultural appropriation

• Exoticizing indigenity

We do not expect papers romanticizing and patronizing indigenous lives.
