CHOTRO-5: On the Arts of Indigenous Peoples

CHOTRO-5

Hosted by Lalit Kala Akademi-- The Indian National Academy for Visual Arts

Call for Papers and Workshop Participation

In the past the Bhasha Research and Publication Centre in Baroda and the European Branch of the Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies have together hosted four unconventional conferences in a format that has by now become recognized among academics, artists and activists as Chotro ( a shared platform).

As part of the Indian Triennale of the visual arts, Chotro-5 on the Arts of Indigenous Peoples is being convened in New Delhi from the 1st to the 5th of March 2016.

Chotro-5 will be held side by side with the Triennale which lasts from February 21st to mid-April. It will feature various exhibitions of indigenous arts.

To this end Chotro 2016 is being convened by the Lalit Kala Akademi as its main host. Bhasha and ACLALS will function as 'knowledge partners'.

Chotro-5 is conceptualized as a balanced mix of   paper sessions and workshops involving both scholars and artists. The primary aim of this Chotro-5 is to reach out to the hinterlands and the remote and rural communities throughout the world as well as to establish a dialogue between the indigenous and the metropolitan and urban.

We invite interdisciplinary contributions which deal with the following themes:

Aesthetics of the Representation of Inheritance
Representations of and by the Indigenous
The Visual Anthropology of the Indigenous
Oral Traditions and Memory-based Arts Practices
The Indigenous Arts and Expression between Tradition and Modernity
Loss of the Indigenous Artistic Practices
Culture for Development
Notions of the Intangible in the Arts
