Focus on Indian English poetry in Muse India

Dear Friends,

The new issue of Muse India (No.60, Mar-Apr 2015) is now released and can be viewed at www.museindia.com.

In his annual survey of Indian English writing, Prof GJV Prasad focuses exclusively on poetry this time and presents works of a number of distinguished poets as also several promising voices. Hyderabad Literary Festival held in the last week of January was a huge success with a much diversified programme this year that included several art-related and cultural events. We bring a report on the festival that has emerged as one of the principal ones in the country today. With highly engaging conversations, articles, poetry and fiction in the general sections, the issue has much to offer and I hope you will find it enjoyable.

It gives me great pleasure to inform members that Dr Charanjeet Kaur has taken over as the Chief Editor of Muse India from Ms Ambika Ananth, who requested for a lesser editorial load due to her numerous other assignments. She, however, will continue to be actively associated as an Editor, looking after the Poetry section. Dr Charanjeet Kaur, who has been our Editor, Literary Articles for the past several years now, retired as I/C Principal and Head of UG, PG and Research Department of English at Smt Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College, Ulhasnagar, in May 2014, after an academic and administrative career spanning 36 years. A gifted poet, her first volume of poetry, Mirror Image and other Poems was published in 2009 and her second book is scheduled to be released later this year. Thus, Dr Kaur brings a rich mix of academic rigour and poetic flair to her new role as the Chief Editor that should help her lead Muse India into new frontiers in its second decade.

We have lined up very interesting coverage in the next two issues. The May-Jun issue will present Indian Diaspora Writing and also have a feature on Indian Science Fiction. The subsequent issue will have coverage on Partition in Literature and Cinema and the writing of eminent Marathi litterateur, Bhalchandra Nemade who was honoured with Jnanpith award for 2014. Please look up details on all these in the link 'Forthcoming'. We invite contributions to all these special sections and look forward to your participation in raising the level of discourse in the ejournal.

With warm wishes,

Surya

GSP Rao, Managing Editor, Muse India
