CALL FOR PAPERS

International Conference on

COMPARING COMPARATIVE LITERATURES

DEPARTMENT OF COMPARATIVE LITERATURE

JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY

We invite abstracts (max. 300 words) for an international conference on COMPARING COMPARATIVE LITERATURES to be organized by the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University on March 18-19, 2015.

The conference seeks to foster discussions on theories, practices and pedagogies of Comparative Literature across different academic spaces. It intends to bring together practitioners of Comparative Literature primarily from India and the UK to share perspectives on collusive and collusive narratives regarding histories, theories, practices and perceived scopes and limits of Comparative Literature.

How different are the narratives of Comparative Literature across space and time?  What are the different loci along which our discipline has been defined and redefined? What kind of convergences, and indeed just as significantly, divergences, can be noted in terms of our perceived objects of study, and what kind of methods inform our practices of Comparative Literature in different academic spaces? These are some of the core questions this conference hopes to address.

The broad thrust areas of the conference will be:

·         Comparative Literature Methodology

·         Translation Studies

·         Reception Studies

Abstracts should be mailed to ukindiaconference2015@gmail.com and must reach us by February 27, 2015. Authors of shortlisted papers will be informed of acceptance by March 4, 2015 . In order to participate, they must submit their complete papers by e-mail to reach us within March 13, 2015 as they will be circulated to all participants before the conference to facilitate discussion.
