Dear Sir/Madam,

This email is to extend our invitation to the students of your institute to participate at the IIT Madras International Symposium, an event hosted at Shaastra, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.

Shaastra, Asia's largest student run festival, is the annual technical festival of IIT Madras, where some of the brightest minds from colleges across the world participate in various technical and innovation challenges. However, the Symposium is open to students from various academic backgrounds, including medicine, law, technology and the humanities.

The details of the event has been given below.

A little bit about us:

Scheduled to be held between the 3rd and 6th of January 2015,  Shaastra is the first ISO 9001:2008 certified student-organized technical festival. Shaastra is an excellent platform for students across the country to exhibit their technological skills. It also attempts to include multiple perspectives to promote a more inclusive approach to technology and policy-making, and this is where our Symposium comes in.

About the IIT Madras International Symposium on Healthcare:

Over the past years, our Symposium has been a platform for discussion and debate among the visionaries of today and the leaders of tomorrow. It provides a stimulating environment for debate through many mentoring sessions, to consider many view points, and creates awareness about the structural hurdles which obstruct change.

Do see our brochure attached with the mail for more information.

Our theme:

The topics covered at our Symposium have included those of great relevance in India, like Sustainable Development, Education in rural India and various aspects of finance and governance in the country.

This year, our theme of "Transforming Healthcare" aims to discuss healthcare in India, and to arrive at possible solutions in two main areas:

1. Technology - Here, the mentors will discuss the advanced technology available today, the influence of big data on healthcare and the repercussions of using excessive technology in healthcare.

2. Policy - The structural roadblocks in place which restrict access to healthcare, including government policy (IPR, affordable insurance etc) and social determinants of health, like gender will be discussed in this track.
