Subject: Fw: Invitation-NGOs & Environmentalists for Dirt-E-Talk 07 November 2014
To:

Dear NGO Friends & Environmentalists,

350.org invites you to Dirt-E-Talks,

On the anniversary of Cyclone Phailin, Cyclone Hudhud hit the coastal town of Vizag causing extensive damage to people and property. As tropical storms become more frequent, the need to act on climate change becomes all the more important and so does the need to build India's climate movement.

On the 20th of September 2014 over 2500 people marched calling on our new Government to act with a great sense of urgency on climate change. The day also witnessed diverse communities coming together like never before on climate issues. With new people joining the climate movement there is now a need to rapidly build public opinion on climate change whilst challenging the social and political factors that are impeding action. To build upon the energy and enthusiasm from the Peoples Climate March we are planning a series of public seminars across India. We are calling them 'Dirt-e-talks' and we want to change the way India talks about energy.

The 'Dirt-E-Talks' series is an initiative to break the myth that fossil fuel based development is the only way for India to prosper. We know that these seminars are not enough to bring the change all of us desire to see and we need a stronger movement on ground to support the demand for sustainable energy. 'Dirt-E-Talks' is a small effort to kick start a mainstream discussion, largely amongst the youth, that will challenge the status quo of how India perceives and acts on its energy needs. The key speaker for the talk is Mr. Bill McKibben, an American environmentalist, author and journalist who has written extensively on the impact of global warming.

Bill McKibben is the winner of the 2013 Gandhi Prize, Right Livelihood Award or the Alternative Nobel, and the Thomas Merton Prize. He holds honorary degrees from 18 colleges and universities. Foreign Policy listed him under their inaugural list of the world's 100 most important global thinkers, and the Boston Globe called him "probably America's most important environmentalist."

These seminars will not only introduce important concepts like energy equity, unsustainable growth parameters, economic impacts of dependence on fossil fuel, but will also provide a platform for audiences to learn and interact with communities resisting dirty energy projects. Stories from frontline communities will leave a long lasting impact on people, urging them to think about injustice and inequalities arising out of current systems of generating energy.

We hope that you will encourage this initiative and join with us on our journey to change the way India talks about energy.

Date :   Friday 7th November 2014
Venue: NTR Auditorium, Telugu University
Time :  5PM-8 PM

As we are inviting diverse participants from experts, scientists, students community, renewable business community, NGOs, and bureaucrats for this talk  seats are limited So we kindly request you to register as early as possible. Fwd: talk by Dr. Nikhila H, EFLU 28th, tuesday, 4pm, new seminar hall on "marking out the south in/of hindi cinema"

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From:

Welcomes All to a Talk by

Dr. Nikhila H.

(Department of Film Studies and Visual Communication, EFLU)

On

Marking out the "South" in/of Hindi Cinema: An Approach via Remakes

Date & Time:

28th October 2014 (Tuesday), 4–5 p.m.

      Venue

SEMINAR HALL, School of Social Sciences

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About the presentation: Hindi cinema accords itself a certain difference vis-à-vis the 'south'. At the same time, we see Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films being dubbed or remade in Hindi, or southern productions making films simultaneously in other languages. This might involve adopting a range of strategies, which this paper addresses. The paper focuses on the cultural flows from Kannada to Bombay cinema, the repertoire of images and narratives that go on to constitute the South in particular ways vis-a-vis Hindi. I will be looking at remakes to see, as Appadurai (1996) says, how 'a social imaginaire [is] built largely around reruns', by taking the instance of such Kannada films remade in Hindi.

About the Speaker: Dr. Nikhila H. teaches in the Department of Film Studies and Visual Communication. Her doctoral work was on women's writing and communalism, considering the context of Partition. Her areas of research interest are Gender Studies and derivatively there-from, Film and Visual Culture Studies. She finds the areas of convergence of language and gender particularly challenging, and much of her research and publications are in this interface and their changing dynamics across times and spaces, looking at print and other forms of media

Listening Post is an informal initiative. All are invited.

Fwd: Publishers Training Programme for Young Professionals scheduled for this December in Delhi

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From:

I trust this finds you very well as I share some interesting news about an upcoming training programme that the German Book Office New Delhi is organising. Its a 2-day training programme [at India International Centre, New Delhi, on 5 & 6 December 2014] for young professionals in publishing that will bring to class the latest trends and techniques needed to equip oneself for talking on the world of digital publishing and trans-media.

Given the context of the fast-evolving Indian publishing industry, there is a deeper engagement of young professionals in making strategic contributions leading to the changing face of this industry. With the global and local trends continuing to inform each other, there is need for skill-based programmes that bring one up-to-speed with latest knowhow and wider exposure tailored to topical subjects. While there is a felt dearth of training opportunities for the young and driven, there are also very few short term, hands-on training modules for entry and mid-career level professionals looking to further their career development. Therefore, this Publishers Training Programme for Young Professionals who are already working in the industry and wish to acquire expertise in new trends & techniques leading the publishing domain.

Through such a compact, comprehensive, workshop-based training programme, GBO New Delhi aims at reaching out to publishing professionals across verticals and looks at creating a fertile ground for talent development for forward-looking companies and individuals. The course looks at bringing participants closer to the new developments in international markets, while also aiming to de-mystify topics such as- digital publishing, multi-platform strategy, new business models, and rights management for cross media among others. The participants will learn from international expert and other leading practitioners from India addressing the gaps in knowledge and practice. Inculcating peer-based exchange and learning, the programme also encourages networking among participants who will be involved in the digital afterlife of each programme edition.

To know  more about each day's programme, price and other details, please find attached the brochure.
