Ek Kahani Aur Bhi...
(A Play in Hindi & Telugu based on Harishankar Parsai’s Stories and Baba Nagarjuna’s Poetries)
Script, Design & Direction: Avdhesh Jha
Venue: B R Ambedkar Auditorium, University of Hyderabad
Date: 17 March, 2011, Time: 6.30 PM
AVARTAN - The Ensemble of Theatre...
Theatre, being a collaborative medium of Art, needs a certain amount of dedication and commitment. Avartan is an amalgamation of diverse minds from various Departments of our University (University of Hyderabad); with define objectives to reach to the various culture, people and communities. While working in an academic environment, we realised the need to break the elitist, often labelled on the performing arts, particularly theatre. The group has tried to break-through the conventions of theatre academics, in order to reach to the common man, to make him/her aware of his/her responsibilities in today’s society. Understanding the fact that our time and society is being reflected directly through this art, we formed the group with a definite sense of commitment. Ours is a new born group, which aims to achieve professionalism, perfection and to break the dogmas of conventions, that drags our society towards conservatism, and obstacle to progresses in all senses.
EK KAHANI AUR BHI…A Collage...An Experience...
Based on Harishankar Parsai’s Stories Bholaram Ka Jeev & Hum Bihar Se Chunav Lad Rahe Hain and Baba Nagarjuna’s Poetry Chandu Maine Sapna Dekha & Aaye Din Bahar Ke. This play is a collage work of experiences that one goes through while reading these text. The theatre treatment given to the play is contemporary one.
We lived in a world where cynicism and hypocrisy has crossed its limits. Indian Political System has failed to address the pressing issues of ‘Aam Aadmi’. Across the party line, the slogans are merely rhetorical. The questions which this play thrives to ask is can we have another set of politics which is derived by humanistic values and principles? The answer must be given by the people. Failed system perpetuate themselves, where even godly figures have failed to address the vary issues on the basis of which they try to liberate human beings from the clutches of misery. It is a black comedy in the Indian context.
The message of the play is very clear and loud, that humanity deserves a better political establishment and institutions. Political ideologies restrict human critical thinking and it acts as bondage. Dogmas can’t solve the problems of the world because it is not the way to solve the problems. Certain fixed agendas decide the way, the life goes on in an attempt to get rid of dogmas, and it only breeds more dogmas. In short, the concept of Dogma revolves in a cyclic order.
The medium of play is unique one in which the presentations of different characters, movements, posters and style are like colourful Flower Vass. It represents the colours of Bihari, Bengali, Deccani, Marathi and Malayalam Slang and dialects of Saurastry and Bhagely. The presentation style reflects the entirety of the play.
